Holy Moses, Healthy Challenge: Nice to See You Again! (An Update!)

Posted by

Hey, friends, remember that healthy challenge I undertook just over a year ago? (Yes, it really has been that long!) And remember how I struggled with losing and gaining the same three pounds for the first six months or so?

Well, things started to progress when autumn came and by November, I was feeling pretty good. Even through the holidays, I managed to keep some weight off and by New Year’s Day, I was down about 7.5 pounds. Granted, this is a far cry from the 16.8 pounds that I’d planned to shed by last August, but it was still progress and I was happy.

Then, in January, my mom had her fifth hospitalization in the last nine months and it broke my resolve. For two weeks, between hospital visits and work craziness and immense stress, I car-ate myself into a frenzy and, lo and behold as the one-year mark passed on the healthy challenge, my weight was back up all but eight-tenths of a pound.

Ugh.

Happy to report that mom’s on the mend again (amazing!) and feeling great. We have a couple of challenges ahead still, but things are looking up. And now, with February nearly behind me, I’m happy to report that I’ve managed to shimmy off 7.4 pounds all together, which puts me nearly halfway to my orignal goal.

And who cares if it’s only just-about-halfway to a goal that I was supposed to reach last August?! If my plan was to become a multi-millionaire and I was off by a year or two (or only made a million instead of many), could any of that possibly and truly be negative?

Hellz, no!

And let’s face it: Had my weight gone the other way overall — had it been up from my starting point at all, even just a pound — the sadness would have been immense. But it’s down, I’m on my way again and feeling great!

And to put a cherry on top of it all, my New York City friends and I just registered to do The Great Saunter, a 32-mile walk around the perimeter of Manhattan! It’s a single-day event, starts at 7am and wraps at 7pm, if you make it. We’ll give it a go.

Between now and then (May 2), I’ll continue with Ella walks as my main training, with a progressively longer walk once or twice a week (without Ella), so that I’m pretty solidly at 30 or so by the time I hit Manhattan. Yowza!! I did a 9.5 mile walk earlier this week and, over the weekend, I’ll set out for 11 or 12 miles.

And in a future post, I’ll summarize some of the things that are helping me finally bust the scale and make forward progress despite continued stress, lots of work and this thing called life.

Hope 2020 is swell so far for you, friends, and thanks for checking in. Stay tuned for a supercharged yogurt update soon, too!

xoxoxo
